TL1000 Message Board Etiquette
Last Updated 24 July, 2001

The rules here are fairly simple.  I ask that you read them and respect them.

OUR MISSION
This is a board to gather information and to discuss motorcycles.  The main topic is the TL1000 but we will try to cater to all makes and models.  You may post about rides, experiences, items for sale, items wanted, etc.  One-on-One conversations should be done via email.

DO NOT POST RUDE RESPONSES TO LEGITIMATE QUESTIONS
You may have seen the question answered a zillion times already, but the person posting may be new.  I will be glad to answer it if I can.  I will remove responses that serve no purpose other than to berate the one asking.

NO PROFANITY
This one is so simple.  It doesn't even need an explanation.

DO NOT POST PHOTOS IN THE MAIN MESSAGE!
Many people have slow connections and if there are photos on the main page, they are FORCED to download them.  I will remove any photos posted to the Main Board.  I will not yell at you for doing it unless it becomes a habit.  Just understand my reason for deleting them.

Message Subject (required):
Type a subject that is brief.

Name (required):
The format we have always used is Name, Location.  i.e. Gary Foreman (VA).  This helps a lot as there are MANY Gary's, etc.  You can put some HTML in here if you want, but keep it brief.  I have the link to tl1000.com in mine.

Email Address (optional):
This is important, and I wish it wasn't optional.  Please post an address that someone who wants to reply to you privately can use.  A lot of times people want to contact one another and a public post is not what they want to do.

Type your message here:
This is where you type your message.  You can include HTML such as links, etc.  If you screw up and want me to delete the message, just let me know.

REPLIES

When replying to a message put your reply in the "Message subject (required):" field.  The reason for this is that people can read the reply without clicking on the reply shortcut.  I know this does not follow normal thinking, but this is the way we have been doing it for years, and it works well.

PHOTOS

NEVER post photos to the Main Board.  If you wish to post a photo, start a message stating what the photo is, then reply to your message and put the photo in the "Type Your Message Here" area.  The photo must be on the web somewhere.  PhotoPoint is one of the free places for storing your photos.  here is the Syntax for posting the photo:

>img src=http://www.???.com/???.jpg<

In order for this to show, I reversed the > < tags.  i.e. it should start <img.  I find it easiest to get your photo up in your web browser and just copy the link and paste in the message body.  I then just insert the html tags.
